January 7, 2017 Ice cold Caturday

The temperatures dropped lower yesterday and even lower over night. An ice cold wind was blowing all day, and the cold stung and hurt in my hands within just a few seconds, just when I opened the window for a short period to get fresh air in. At night, at about 10pm, the wind was even colder than during the day and it was a clear sky. Which meant of course that the temperatures are going to drop even more over night.

These ice flowers formed yesterday. It was 10pm when I took these photos and the temperature was -8°C / 17.6°F

Over night the temperatures dropped even more of course. I woke up at about 5:30am, while it was still dark outside and I could hear by the sound the tram makes on their rail, that it must be ice cold outside. Because when it gets really cold, they make much more noise in their rails. During more mild temperatures you can’t hear it at all from where I am. It has been very quiet over night, the street empty. No one wants to walk around in these temperatures lol. I also find things sound kind of muffled when it gets to -10°C / 14°F

Yesterday, Friday, was a holiday here. And the delivery with Murlis food for the month arrived today. Of course I got her some more toys again…😹

  1. The ‘ice flowers’ are so beautiful Natascha! I relate to the cold; it is frigid here & we have had a total of 5 feet of snow……There are 2 blog posts with photos you can check out when you are up to it…..
Siddhartha henry has not even asked to go out in 4 days! It is too cold for him even.
Those catnip stars are adorable! Murli totally loves them. I bought Siddhartha Henry 5 new gray mice AND I found a replacement for his Puff Daddy mouse….except he will not give up his 1st one…so he has 2 Puff Daddy’s now, hehehe…..
I am not 100% well. I think my Reflux medication has stopped working. See Doctor tomorrow. But that is supposed to be for BP recheck & to ask for Bone Scan. Wish me LUCK!
(((hugs))) an good wishes, Sherri-Ellen & **nose rubsss** Siddhartha Henry xxxx

    1. I love the ice flowers too! And by now I have taken some more pictures of them, since it’s so cold they remain all day, despite sunshine lol! And more pictures of Murli. Going to post tomorrow and check out your bloggie too😸💗

It’s really something… It’s been so very long since we had this kind of cold in the winter. Most years it wasn’t even mildly cold. It’s nice that I get a break from Migraines that way! Didn’t have one since the foehn days, when I wrote the migraine days post. Shortly after the cold came and no migraines since.

I do very well with the cold. I don’t feel cold easy thankfully.
Totally unacceptable Siddhartha Henry doesn’t want to go outside in that cold weather. Murli doesn’t like it either and she doesn’t even go near an open window right now.

Wow! You really got lots of snow in the recent weeks! I’m going to check out your posts in the morning😸

Oh yes those catnip stars are so cute! Murli really has some fun with them! I love watching her having fun and being happy 😸
Haha I know what you mean… Murli also has a grey mouse she loves so much. She still plays more with this old grey mouse, than with the replacement mousies (which are the same, just new lol).

Hahaha it’s great he has now 2 puff daddy mousies! You never know.. Sometimes their toys vanish (hidden somewhere), then the new one will come in handy😸

How did everything turn out at the doctor? Thinking of you every day, wishing you well & keeping you & the littul Purrince in my prayers 💗💗💗 Hope you will feel better again soon!
Oh reflux is phooey! I have it too… But it got better for whatever reason. Now it’s not as bad anymore. I know how bad this can be and feel. It would often keep me from sleeping in the night or wake me up with all the stuff coming up suddenly.

Sending love prayers, & Paw purrayers & hugs 💞💞💞

  2. Oh Natascha I think Murli & Siddhartha Henry ARE related! I had to sneak the old icky grey mouses into the garbage when he was asleep. He accepted the new ones w/out any problem. And he has 2 ‘Puff Daddy’ mousies…
I am glad you are not having Migraines & are enjoying your Winter. I so want to go for a long walk in the snow but I can barely manage 2 blocks.
I did take Siddhartha Henry out twice this week for short walks. It is supposed to ‘warm’ up mid-week so fingers crossed I can take him out a bit more.
Oh yes the Doctor appointment: She examined me & I was inflamed from mid bum right up to mid spine…all the muscles & ligaments & bones. I asked for a bone scan to be set up but she refused & we had a ‘discussion’ about my ‘alleged’ bone disease. Now she is back tracking saying I might not have Skeletal Hyperostosis….I was not a happy camper about this, as it has been confirmed in 2001. I am so tired of fighting with Doctors’ & Vets’ in general so I just shut my mouth. I got a script for Flexeril a muscle relaxer. She wants me to take 2 daily! On ALL the medical websites they say take ONCE daily. So this is Day 5 & I am taking 1 daily & much of the muscle & ligament pain has left. The bone pain remains so I am not 100% at all.
She wants me on ‘bed rest’ but to ‘keep moving’! I was thinking “Make up your mind already!”
I have Chronic Reflux as my stomach lining is shot from so many meds over the years for pain. So I take special Reflux script & it works well.
I hope you & Murli & your Pappaw are all doing well.

    1. Hahaha it really seems like they could be sisfur & brofur lol!😺😺 So funny! Lol don’t let the littul Purrince read about you sneaking out the icky old mouses LOL!!! 🙀
But yeah, they usually accept the new ones just fine when you get rid of the old ones.

Oh my, Murli won’t be happy tomorrow lol. Because we finally have to take down our Christmas tree🎄 We’ll bring it to the nearest Christmas tree collection point. The city always has many collection points, usually in parks, where you can bring your tree to and they are picked up by the end of the day for recycling. It goes until January 22nd.
But the tree is getting too dry by now. I think I’ll have to look into a sad little face tomorrow…😿 I’ll think of something to make up for it, so she has something to be happy about as well.

Thank you, I’m really lucky still! No migraines yet. It’s still cold! Even thought we had a few “warmer” days, where it only cooled down to -6°C and reached +4°C during the day. But it’s cooling down again and this night is going to be clear and therefore freezing cold❄️❄️❄️

Wishing you some milder temperatures, so you can go out for a few little walks with Siddhartha Henry😺☀️

Oh thank you! We are all doing just fine!
((((hugs)))) & lots of LOVE, Natascha❤️

  3. We have a similar Christmas tree program here! They are all mulched an used in the Harrison Park gardens.
I hope you find something to ‘replace’ the tree so Murli is not too upset by the tree removal.
Hurrah for cool temps & NO migraines!
I have taken Siddhartha Henry for a few short walks & today his Mumma (Mary-Ellen) took him out when shee came to visit. It is 1 C here so not very warm. At least he got some fresh air.
Now for a nap!!! LOL 🙂

    1. Great! It seems many cities have these kind of programs now. I can remember, when I was a child, I would always see Christmas trees that had been thrown down the river bank, which goes down to the river in a steep slope. (They lowered the river bed some time before or schortly after 1900, to protect the city from floods. We would be flooeded almost every year if it werent for thist.) Anyway, that steep slope would be strewn with dumped Christmas trees.

Murli is doing fine, despite the missing tree. Even though she really loved that tree, she is happy with the replacement cuddle/hiding/playspot I put there in it’s place. You might have seen the video I posted by now, where she sees that the tree is gone. By now I put more stuff there for her lol. I plan on building her a fortress kind of thing, out of boxes. I found quite some inspiration on pinterest, for creating easy “kitty-fortresses” out of boxes or wooden crates lol. Now I just need to find me some good sturdy boxes and maybe some wooden boards.

I still haven’t had a migraine yet! Yay!!!

Aww nice Siddhartha Henry got to take some walks😺! Yes, fresh air is always good! At least for a bit.

Hope you are feeling as well as possible right now!❤️❤️❤️ ((((Hugs)))) & Love, Natascha❤️ & purrs with head rubzzz from Murli🐾

  4. Same here! Christmas trees floating down the Sydenham River that runs thru town…..it was so tacky looking I can tell you!
I did see Murli’s video & she looked so cute snooping around. Not concerned about the tree at all….
I love the idea of a kitty fortress. Wish I had more room to build one for Siddhartha Henry.
Today he went out in small Condo for an hour! Then we went out for 3 walks as the monthly fire alarm test was done. The Fire Tech was called to replace a few parts so we stayed out a lot. In the end, the alarm was not set off again. It is supposed to be around 38 F tomorrow so I will be out walking my ‘littul Purrince’, lol…..

    1. Geez!! That really is tacky when they are floating down the river lol! Some idiots still throw them down to the river despite the collection programs. People… *shakes head*

Haha yes, she was so sweet! All surprised and totally distracted by the stuff for her, that she really didn’t worry about the missing tree😺 I put some more fun stuff there and she’s totally happy! ❤❤❤

Yeah, I know it’s not easy to do all the stuff one wants to do when you dont have a lot of room. I will use the space where the tree was and where her “playground” is right now.

Oh you have a monthly fire alarm! Yeah, that must be unfunny for cats… Hehe, so the littul Purrince got a lot of fresh air today😸 Is the icky weather all gone now? Hope it stays dry for you, so there he doesnt get his lovely little paws wet and damp lol❤❤❤ Here we had a few days with “warmer” temperatures, where it didn’t get lower than -6°C (21.2°F) during the night and a couple days where it only got down to -2°C (28.4°F) in the morning. The daytime was around 0°C (32°F) and on one day it was 3°C (37.4°F) during the day. But this morning we got down to -12°C (10.4°F) and it only shortly got up to 0°C (32°F). But I’m not complaining, this frigid weather spares me from having migrains 😸

I’m going to sleep soon I guess. Going to play around with Murli now, and take a shower and some stuff. Going to reply to your email tomorrow❤❤❤

💕Have a lovely afternoon and evening with Siddhartha Henry! Murli sends her purrs and paw hugz!💕 Much love, Natascha & Murli🐾

  5. Very tacky as we are a tourist town….makes me ashamed to live here some times.
The weather is ok; as in it is around 37 F during the day & around 32 F at night. There is still a lot of snow on the ground. The air is quite damp. Not pleasant for walking so the walks are 15-30 minutes with Siddhartha Henry. I almost let Mary-Ellen buy him ‘doggie socks’ a few weeks ago….but I figured he would not be amused by that. A harness & jacket are one thing; socks entirely something else, hahahaha!!
Have sweet dreams Natascha & Murli!
