April 19, 2017 7:30pm Cold like winter

Hey furends!

The weather got worse over night. The already cold wind we had these days, got much stronger today and even colder. Central Europe has gotten some really cold weather. The Alps, the valleys in between the mountains, and the surrounding areas of the Alps got a lot of snow. The temperatures dropped in general, and a very cold and strong North wind is blowing. Unfortunately, the fruit harvest is in danger of being destroyed again, like last year where up to 95% of the fruit harvest got destroyed by frost damage in late April. Which of course drove prices for the remaining regional fruit way up. A lot of people here love their regional food, and prefer that over imported food.

Some farmers try to save their trees from frost damage, by lighting small contained flames in between those trees. It just has to rise the temperature enough to keep it above freezing. They are out there day and night, keeping an eye on the flames and watching over their trees.

The streets around the Alps are totally in chaos, as it’s snowing like crazy and many people had already removed their winter tires and are now in heavy snowfall with their summer tires.

That’s the pretty amazing blue sky we had before the clouds came.

The following pictures were taken on Tuesday afternoon at 3pm. I was on my way back home from picking up some food for Murli at the Vet. The cold wind was blowing so bad at times, that it was really not funny. My hands became numb from the cold too. Thankfully I made it home before any rain came. But, the rain never came for the city. It must have come down farther south.

Today the wind is even stronger, and just as cold. This afternoon, someone forgot to close their outer windows, and so the window panes were flapping wildly and banging into the wall in the strong wind, and got busted. Now there’s broken glass on the pavement, right beside the entrance to our building.

At around noon, when I was at my doctors office, I kept hearing the noise of the wind blowing through the branches of a very tall tree, that stands in the middle of the block of buildings. Within such a block of buildings, there are often gardens and trees. That’s how they used to build many of the city blocks in old European cities.

Anyway, because I was amazed at that tall tree swaying like that, and the sound the wind kept making blowing into the branches of that tree. So I went out onto the balcony there and hoped I would be able to capture that sound with my iphone:

Murli is having a lazy day today. No wonder she feels better cuddled up on my lap, or somewhere else where it’s cuddly warm right now. She didn’t even get to enjoy a few sun puddles to hang out in. Even though the morning was seeming a bit more friendly and partly sunny for a short time, it was way too short. Murli enjoyed the fresh air though. She just rather sits a little below the window when it’s cold and especially when a cold wind is blowing. Otherwise, she would sit on the window sill like usual MOL. So I hope you all have a nice evening and you’re warm and comfy with your lovely kitties!

  2. All morning I have been visiting blogs trying to catch up. Lunch time now–snow tires stored away for the fall. Everyone showing Spring flowers today except me–I don’t do flowers anymore. Warm? Not really but Winter is gone here in the Lowlands. The mountains are of course different. You are the coldest blog I read about today so far. Congratulations!

    1. Haha thanks! It’s really cold for late April! The regions within the Alps and many of the regions bordering the Alps have gotten snow, a lot of snow. That ice cold north wind that has been blowing these past few days, has increased in strength even more since yesterday.
Even here in the city, the wind gusts
have speeds between 37mp/h (60kp/h) and 43mp/h (70kp/h). It has gone down to around 39mp/h for now. This night will be colder than the last one with temperatures below freezing point. Our spring flowers are all frozen now. I feel for the animals being in the midst of winter again suddenly, and all the little ones who have been born by now. I hope it will warm up again soon. Thanks for your nice comments! Have a lovely evening😺

    1. The thing is… we got some more of that these days. The mountains got snow again and it cooled down considerably. Not sure yet how it will turn out today, but it’s overcast at the moment, but the rain had stopped. It’s only 5C at the moment, which isn’t much at 10am in the end of April MOL! Hope its a bit more friendly in your area? Purrs & hugs!!!

    1. Right! 💖She knows it’s not good to sit right in that chilly air blowing in.
No worries though, we’re generally very safe here. Buildings are built very strong and sturdy. Especially the old buildings like we are living in, have massive stone walls and deep and strong foundations. Wind won’t easily cause a problem. ☺️❤️️❤️️❤️️ Hope the weather is pleasant for you?

    1. Thanks soooo much for your sweet comments and your visits on our blog!☺️😺

Yes it really looked like severe weather with the way those clouds looked. Murli at least thinks the stuff being blown around by the wind is entertaining. Like the newspapers and leaves and all kinds of other things, that were blown through the street while Murli was watching 😺💜
Thankfully we have sunshine again! And the storm ceased by Friday. The temperatures are also slowly rising again towards spring appropriate levels 😂😺 So Murli finally got to enjoy her sun puddles again ☀️🐈

Aww thank you so much for your kind words for Murli! I love boy cats too! They’re really handsome ☺️ Lovely Spike! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!🐾🙋🏻🐈💕

  4. We are experiencing very high winds in Los Angeles as I write this. Very common for this time of year but I hate how the wind shakes the building and howls like a wild dog! My cats are all comfy indoors. I prefer local produce too and shop for my fruit and veggies at the local farmers market every Tuesday afternoon in Culver City. Keep warm and don’t get blown away!

    1. I hope the weather is a bit more calm for you right now? Very true, the winds howling really does sound like a dog… High winds are common for our region as well. The most common high winds we have here are the ones coming from the mountains. We have had two extremely rainy days now. The rain was actually necessary though, as we were experiencing a bit of a drought in our region. But it also cooled down again considerably, since the mountains got some more snow.
Farmers markets are really wonderful. Dad and I get all our veggies, eggs and many other things like honey and jelly there. We have many different farmers markets in our city and they are there from Monday to Saturday from 7am in the morning until noon. We have one very close. Its not even 5 minutes to walk up there. Have a comfy day with your sweet cats 💕😺
