April 27, 2017 Catching up

Yay! Today is the first day of me feeling normal and awake again. For the past two weeks, I had been ill again… Due to a bout of the shingles, which thankfully were not bad. I had chicken pox as a child, so since then I had that Virus in me. In the first days before anything became apparent, I had severe fatigue and I just didn’t feel right at all. Then at the end of the Easter weekend, the rash started, but just a very small area on the right side over my ribs. Went to the doctor right after the Easter weekend and got a Antiviral and pain meds prescribed. Thankfully the antiviral medicine was able to prevent it from actually breaking out fully, since the treatment was started early enough, and because it was a mild case.

The medicine made me very tired though. As long as I did something I was ok, but as soon as I would sit down and start to read or write, my eyes wanted to close. Many times over the last week, have I fallen asleep while sitting on the couch with my ipad… Hilarious!

I’m finally feeling fully awake again today. Hopefully I’ll have a good phase without migraines for a bit, because there’s so much I want to do and I’m looking forward to be able to catch up with all of your lovely blogs, as well as with all our furends on instagram and twitter ❤️️

Murli is doing purrfect! But she’d love to have more days with comfortable temperatures and sun puddles to nap in. Unfortunately, our weather here in Austria, and other parts of Europe, continue to have unusually cold weather. First there was the stormy and cold weather I wrote about. Then a few days with milder temperatures and a bit of sun followed. The Foehn wind was howling again on Tuesday and brought warm air from the south. The next day, the Foehn wind was gone, but the temperatures were falling again, which created more wind, just not Foehn wind. Today it’s grey, dark and rainy. The mountains are also getting snow again and it’s possible that we’ll get some of it as well.

But we will enjoy a cuddly and comfy weekend. Murli on my lap, and a coffee next to me, I’m not complaining at all. The only thing I worry about is how animal and plant life are coping with that kind of weather.

Here is a video I took on Tuesday, as the Foehn Wind was howling through the door. Murli isn’t afraid of those things, as they’re happening all the time and she’s used to it all. But her little nose is sniffing into the air, as the air current brings all kinds of smells with it I’m sure😸

In the video, Murli is about to get her meal, and she knows of course. I was about to go into the kitchen, when I decided to film that howling of the wind. I’m kind of sure she’s thinking what I’m doing there filming the door, instead of getting her meal ready lol…

I also wanted to show you one of the trees that grow on the river bank, that had fallen during those stormy days after the Easter weekend. I came across that fallen tree on my way to a grocery store. There were many fallen trees more along the river banks. But I’m kind of sure that the trees that did fall due to the wind, were already weakened in some way. (You can click on the images to see them in a larger view)

I also found a left over Christmas tree 😂😹 I had to think of Siddhartha Henry’s LadyMum Sherri-Ellen of nylabluesmum.wordpress.com when I saw that Christmas tree, because we were talking about exactly this kind of thing shortly after Christmas and how people throw Christmas trees down the river banks and into rivers and all kinds of other places lol.

Hope you all are doing fine! Murli and I wish you all a pleasant Thursday!

  1. Nice view of the people on the street. We get big wind storms from the Pacific Ocean and are no strangers to falling trees. Pretty late to throw out Christmas trees. I have artificial tree now in it’s box. Cats more attracted to the smell of a real tree which causes problems when they are attracted to it. I looked up Foehn wind so I do not have to ask you what it is!

    1. Thank you! Aside from napping there, Murli loves that view and she really enjoys watching the people and everything else that goes on in the street.
Oh yeah, those kind of storms you have there are much stronger from what I see in videos, photos and articles about severe weather there. At least I think they are much worse than what we experience here in Europe, considering they reach higher wind speeds over land than they do here.

The Hurricanes we get over Europe, called European windstorms, but they have many different names in all the different countries: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_windstorm

In german we call that type of storm “Orkan” (singular) “Orkane” (plural). They can be quite severe out at sea, and of course at the coastal regions, with speeds of 124mph (200kmh) and close to 187mph (300kmh). Farther inland the wind speeds can still be high. In Austria, despite the mountains, the speeds can reach up to 112mph (180kmh) and more in the valleys, like here in Graz. But these speeds are rare. Most of the time, the speeds here in the valley will reach up to 43mph (70kmh) Of course, in more flat regions, like Germany, the speeds are generally higher.

I forgot to link to information about the Foehn wind… I’m very much interested in Meteorology, and I especially like to take photos of the sky during all kinds of different seasons and weather conditions. Glad you know abou the Foehn wind now!

You are right about real Christmas trees. I’m just really lucky with Murli in general, because she’s never destroying anything or even trying to. But she always enjoys napping or simply just relaxing underneath the Christmas tree. So thankfully Dad and I are able to have real trees. The smell is wonderful☺️

Thank you a lot for stopping by and commenting! Have a wonderful day!

      1. Sleeping under the Christmas tree is popular, even if it is not a real tree! I used to live in the United Kingdom, by the way, so I experienced some “European” weather! I have been unable to find a weather forecast “widget” that works with my blog, and does not interfere with it’s security. I saw yours, and tried it on my blog, and it works perfectly! Thanks for that!

        1. Very true! They love to sleep under Christmas trees. Doesn’t matter if it’s real or not😺
Oh I see! That’s awesome you lived in Europe before. I love the UK.

I know what you are talking about with the weather widgets not working… I was searching for quite a while until I found the ones I have now. So glad you finally have a weather widget for your blog thanks to mine. Yay! Have a wonderful Sunday!

          1. 😩 Yeah, it really seems they just don’t work anymore. Sigh… I noticed them displaying the wrong temperatures every now and then. Then sometimes it was correct again. They used to work really well. Thanks for letting me know that they dont work at all anymore. I will get rid of them too. No use if it’s like that. It’s unfortunate that the widgets that are likely a lot better, just don’t work with wordpress. So I guess we have to continue looking for weather widgets that will work with wordpress. In case you find one, let me know😄 Have a lovely day!

  2. I am glad you are feeling better. My Mom has had shingles and she said it is painful. Is the shingles vaccine available in Austria? You can still get one, but I think you have to wait a certain amount of time after having had the shingles. I am sure Murli was an excellent nurse to you. XO

    1. Thank you again for your advice! I’m so thankful I did not have such a severe case like I had seen on my Mum and Grandmother and that it was caught right away and the treatment started. I will talk with my doctor next week and as soon as I can get vaccinated, I sure will. I have seen how severe the shingles can be and really don’t want to get it again. Happy Caturday from Murli and me! Hugs!!

    1. Thank you so much! I’m very glad that I didn’t have a severe case of it and also catched it right in the beginning, so the treatment was very successful because of that.

    1. Thank you a whole lot! Thank God I was lucky and my shingles were very minor compared to how severe and painful they can be. And it was caught right away and the treatment with the Antiviral was very much able to prevent it from even progressing and it’s healing just fine now. Also, thank God I didn’t get them on my head. I have seen how bad it can be with my Mum and Grandmother. They were in severe pain and my Grandmother had to be hospitalized back then.

Hehe yeah Murli was def. puzzled!😹 Very happy to get to know you! You’re really kind. Murli and I wish you a pawsome Caturday and Weekend! We send lots of love to you 💕😺👩❤️️❤️️❤️️

    1. Hello!🐾 Yay! So glad you were able to find us thanks to Phoebe!
Your blog is just so lovely! Murli and I are really happy to have found you!

Aww thank you! Yeah, I really was lucky regarding my shingles outbreak. I know from other people how bad it can be…

I’m sure your uncle and aunt will have a lovely time here. There are so many great places in Austria.

For some reason it never lets me comment with my wordpress name on blogger (seems to be a problem with wordpress itself, as many people have the same problem going on). It was at some point possible to comment with your wordpress account.
So I have a blog address on blogger, where I have a post up with the link to his blog, and other links too.
Thank you very much for visiting our blog and for your kind words! Looking forward to read more on your blog! Have a peaceful and happy Sunday! Hugs, Natascha and Murli🐾

  5. Oh Natascha I a so sorry you have been unwell!! Shingles are a nasty business. I am relieved you caught them in time….sounds like the cure is as rough as the illness. And Not Foehn again? You must have been so worn out….
Our weather has been ridiculous. Warm & sunny for a few days & then temps go to 35 F & it is cold & cloudy or very very rainy (like today April 30th).
I apologize for not getting here sooner. We had another rough week & I just could not seem to get my act together & visit blogs! I DID blog today for P SH for Sunday Selfies…I am so far behind I will never catch up. *sighs*
And you found an abandoned Christmas tree….not surprising. I think people think it is ecological to toss them away….
Sending (((hugs))) & warm regards, Sherri-Ellen & ***paw patsss*** Siddhartha Henry =^,.^=

    1. Hey my dear friends Sherri-Ellen and Siddhartha Henry 💗 Thankfully I really was lucky and it didn’t even break out fully. Thanks to the strong antiviral I got prescribed and it worked really well and killed the virus. So thanks to that I wasn’t all that much in pain. Probably also because I am already on a relatively strong pain med that I take every day. But yes, it is so very bad when it breaks out fully.

Yup! Foehn again… Today too. Our Valley is one of those valleys of the Alps that are called “Foehn Valleys” lol.

Your weather sounds very much like the weather we had going on and still have. Just like you described, the temperature and the weather keeps changing around. With the difference being that we didn’t get rain most of the time, except for the weather after the easter weekend. But we got high winds and the mountains all around us and all over the Alps and foothill regions got fresh snow. Some parts got more snow in two days than they got all winter lol!

Please no worries about anything 💜💜💜☺️ It’s all good! I understand very well about not being able to catch up with everyone as much. You still manage this much better than I do. I also feel like I will never be able to catch up now either lol!
      Sigh…

Haha yes, I really had to laugh when I saw that Christmas tree lol. It’s just so ridiculous, because there’s so many Christmas tree collection places going on every year after Christmas, and they are there for a while too. But I guess some people just don’t care.
One of the more crazy places where I saw thrown away Christmas trees, wad the way too small trash can at a bus stop… They managed to cram that tree in there and so it basically stood in that small trashcan. But I will never forget the mental image of thrown away Christmas trees floating in the river we talked about back then after Christmas lol!

Murli is purring loudly next to me💕🐈 We are in bed and it 11:35pm now. So I hope you are feeling better and Siddhartha Henry feels good too 😻💕💕💕💕 Murli and I send hugs and kitty cuddles and nose kisses 💕 🐈

I am still worn out for some reason. Will be back in our morning to finally catch up on your bloggie! ☺️😺💜💜💜💜 Purrs from Murli & lots of love to both of you!😽 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

  6. Hi Natascha: Well it has been days since I was even on PC. So now I am REALLY playing catch up. I think you are worn out from the Shingles & anti-viral. It all takes a lot of energy to be ill & recover….I hope by now you are feeling better? With all the nasty stuff happening where I live; my chronic fatigue has kicked in BIG time. I am so weary & tired & cranky…..even too tired to cry :(
Weather has been weird. last week we had 5 days straight of rain! Thankfully the Sun has been shining for the past 2 days altho it is barely 40 F degrees out with a North wind…chilly!!!!
Please *kiss* Murli for me. And ((hugs)) to you from me, Sherri-Ellen x0x0
