Last week a baby Redstart spent the night on our balcony

Baby Redstart

Last Friday, May 31, in the evening, all of a sudden, a little baby Redstart landed on our balcony. It’s a Common Redstart to be exact. It wasn’t there just moments before and unfortunately I did not see it fly up to our balcony, or down to it, from a nest higher up. It must have just left it’s nest that afternoon, to learn how to fly.

With the baby bird on our balcony, I knew why I could hear Redstart’s flying all over the garden and calling relentlessly, seeming quite upset for most of the day. They must have been looking for their baby and weren’t able to find it for hours. I had been wondering what was going on with them all afternoon.

A little later I tried to take a picture from the bedroom window, but that wasn’t all that easy through twice the amount of fencing from the balcony. But you can see the baby’s red tail:

That little one was just sitting still, not moving for a long time, except for blinking it’s eyes. It stayed quiet as well. It was already getting dark when it started calling out, as the parents were near. Finally they were reunited again and I was able to watch the baby as it was being fed on our balcony. I was watching it all from our bedroom window, which is to the right of the balcony and set a bit farther back. Unfortunately it was too dark by that point to get a proper video or photo.

Since I was not sure how well that little one was able to fly at that point, I did not want to risk it getting scared and flying down onto the ground. Because they can flutter down at first, but not really up. So I left the door closed and nobody was allowed out, neither Ralph, myself or the cats. The balcony was to be off limits for as long as the little one would decide to stay. It would have been dangerous if it would have sat on the ground all night, unable to fly higher again. But the baby bird was safe on our balcony, as it’s too high for even a cat to jump onto it.

With the balcony door closed and the blinds all the way down, there were lots of meows at the balcony door for a while… From Murli.

Here is a video I took with my camera, shortly after I saw the Redstart baby sitting there. That little bit of baby bird fluff that’s still on it’s head is totally adorable:

Before the video with my camera, I just took a video with my phone, not knowing if I would have time to get the camera. The special thing about that video is that you can see one of the neighbour cats hiding in the high grass, stalking. The kitty was actually stalking pigeons that were down on the ground, but she looked up once she saw me and the baby bird.

The next morning, I got up early and looked out of the bedroom window first thing, and the baby was still there. But once I got into the kitchen and carefully looked out under the lowered blinds of the balcony door, it was gone. A few minutes later I saw it on the ground, getting fed by one of the parents. I saw it was able to fly about half a meter higher into the bushes.

Later that afternoon, the parents were calling for their baby again, flying all over the garden, looking everywhere. I was able to film the Mum when she was near the balcony and once on the balcony. Thankfully they found the baby shortly afterwards again.

Since that day, the parents and the baby are together, and there is no more upset calling and flying around by the parents. I hope I will see the young bird again soon, and hopefully get a photo or video of it :-)

The quality of the photos and videos isn’t perfect, but it’s still a lovely thing that I wanted to share with you all.

Murli, Samantha, Sonic and me wish you all a lovely day!

Our nice weekend

Friday started out much warmer and more sunny than it has been for many weeks. But Caturday felt almost like summer, as did Sunday, when it was even warmer. So of course the balcony door and the windows were open all day for the cats to enjoy, and for us too.

It was nice to feel warm air coming in from the open balcony door for a change. I put the umbrella up and some hung two mats on either end of the balcony for shade, and put the chairs out.

Samantha jumped right through the string curtain and onto this chair…

Samantha does not care… Bird watching is more important.

No, she could not care less about the string on her head. The birds were up and down at the feeder and it was just nice out there in the shade.

Murli and Samantha stayed out there most of the afternoon on Saturday.

They like to change the chairs every now and then. Thankfully we have more than those two chairs, so I was able to get a chair for myself too.

Unlike Samantha, Murli tends to get hot more easily with her longer fur, so she went in to rest on the fridge for a while.

Later in the afternoon, more and more clouds came up, and the wind started picking up too. We really thought rain would be coming again.

It was totally overcast by the time I went to bed later that night, but to my surprise, the next morning (Sunday) was clear and sunny!

This lovely Sunday became the first really beautiful warm day this year. We all really enjoyed the warm air coming in through the windows and the balcony door all day, and how nice it was outside.

Even Sonic, who only really likes to go out for longer when it is warm, was enjoying it out there. The birds were active at the feeder as usual, providing entertainment for Sonic, Samantha and Murli.

Also on that Sunday, Austria voted in the European Elections. I went to my local voting station right in the morning, because it might have been much more busy later that day, since we live in the biggest district in our city. It was just down the street from us in a school building.

Election at the local school
The building where I voted

Above the entrance it says “Mädchen”, which is German for “girls”. It is an old school building and still has the writing from when schools used to be separated into girls and boys houses. The second half of the building, which is farther to the left and not in the picture, the writing above the entrance says “Knaben” which is an older German word for “boys”.

It was quite busy in our street that day from all the people going to cast their votes. This school was just one of many voting stations in our district. Every district in the city has many of them. It’s usually very close to where you live and schools and other public buildings are used as voting stations.

Anyways, I went back home to enjoy the rest of the day with my awesome husband and my sweet kitties. So we truly had a great weekend, despite having had two migraines.

Today, Monday, I woke up with yet another migraine… The weather had changed again and it was dark, cold and raining. It kept raining all day too and we had to put the heat back on lol. But we’re already looking forward to the weekend again, because the forecast says it will be nice!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend and had a pleasant start into the new week <3

September 12, 2017 – Finally! The last few days before we’re together in Austria!

Wow! It’s been over a month now since I came back from Spain and since I last wrote an update. As you probably already read on my dear Ralph’s post, things have been stressful and worrying for a while, as we were looking for a removal company and as we tried to figure out a way to bring the cats to Austria. It was especially stressful for Ralph. I worried a lot myself, which is why I did not post on my blog like I had wanted to. I usually can’t do things I enjoy doing when I’m anxious or worried for some reason. My mind was all with Ralph and the cats, Murli’s new siblings, Sonic and Samantha.

Basically, from the first day of me being back in Austria, Ralph and I started to organise and arrange everything necessary for the big move… and it just never stopped. At first things were not easy, as we tried to sort out a transport for the cats and Ralph’s belongings to Austria. But either the companies we contacted did not reply at all, or they were simply outrageously expensive. One removal company we had first wanted to use, only does moves to the UK and from the UK. The same thing was true for the animal courier company we wanted to use at first. We wrote to a couple of others, and either we got no reply (despite multiple tries from both of us), or they also only served moves from and to the UK, or they were outrageously expensive as well.

So this is how things went…

The first change we decided on, was that we’ll get our new apartment together, as we want the contract to be in both our names, and we both need to be here for that. It’s going to be quick with the new apartment, once Ralph is here with the cats. I already have an apartment in mind for us that we might take. But we’ll decide about that together.

So for the time until we have our apartment, I have found us a B&B that allows guests to bring their pets. It’s not far from the city centre, and everything we need is close by. My kitty girl Murli will be staying with my Dad until we have the apartment, as Sonic and Samantha will have been through enough stress by the time they’re in Graz, and it would not be a good time to introduce Murli to them on top of everything else. The cats already know each other smells, as I sent Ralph toys I made, which I filled with Murli’s fur. And I have Samantha and Sonic’s fur for Murli. She always starts purring and rubs her head into the little toy that I filled with Sonic and Samantha’s fur.

Another change was the transport of the cats themselves. Since we had no luck with the animal courier companies, we thought about having them transported by themselves via an Airline. But, turns out it’s actually much easier, at least nowadays, to fly together with your cats. Not all airlines want to transport animals in the hold and only allow one cat and carrier per person in the cabin. The carrier would be put underneath the seat in front of you. Since Ralph flies alone and has two cats, we had to see which Airline would transport pets in the hold. Thankfully, one of the Airlines that flies from Malaga to Vienna, does what we need.

Shortly before, Ralph had finally found a removals company that will transport everything to Austria for a reasonable price. And then, once we had a date for the removals truck to arrive at Ralph’s home in Spain, he was able to book his flight and then also book the cats onto his flight! That big worry was finally over with! We finally had transport for the apartment contents and a flight for Ralph and the cats.

Meanwhile, I found us a storage place in Graz, that is really nice, flexible, and they were very kind and helpful, with the price being totally fine. So it’s no problem to have Ralph’s belongings transported to Graz and directly put into the storage place I rented.

The last important step for the cats has been done yesterday in the afternoon, as Sonic and Samantha got their health certificates and all important stamps and stickers in their cute little blue passports. So everything is set for Ralph and the kitties to fly! Yay!

After a month with emotional up and downs, during which we didn’t know when exactly we would see each other again, we finally had a countdown to a certain date:

The plane will land shortly before midnight on Friday the 15th in Vienna. Because of that, I had booked us a hotel room near the airport, where we and the cats can relax and get a good nights sleep. Then towards noon on Saturday, we’ll get on the train to Graz. If I had not booked a hotel room, we would have had to hang around the airport all night, to take the first train to Graz. Which would have been no fun at all and especially not fair on the cats.

Ralph will leave for the airport in Malaga at about the same time as I will leave here to take the bus to Vienna Friday afternoon. I’ll arrive at the airport in Vienna at 7:10pm, where I will buy a couple of things for us in the grocery store there and then check into the Hotel. I’ll be at the hotel when Ralph will still be at the airport. Then I’ll follow his flight to Austria on flightradar24.com just like he did with my flight to Spain. Then, about half an hour or so before the plane will be due to land, I’ll be at the airport.

It will be one of the most relieving and happy moments ever to see Ralph and the cats again! Finally in Austria, to start our life together. I’ll be celebrating that day every year, that’s for sure. And I’ll be taking pictures of Ralph and the cats at Vienna airport too, so I can share it with you all☺

Oh I will be so very glad when Ralph and the cats have safely arrived in Vienna. Yay! Just a few more days now…

I’ll post a short update from the hotel room in Vienna when Ralph, the cats and i are finally reunited.

Lots of love from Murli and I and thank you all so much for your love and kindness❤

August 8, 2017 Back in Austria, after the best time of my life! And with news!

Hello dear friends!

So where to start… after so much has happened, so much is happening and the long time I’ve been gone from my blog. I will start with an apology to all of you, every single one of you wonderful friends, the ones who’ve known me and the many who came here through the blog of my dearest Ralph. I apologise for not posting on here, like I had thought I will do. I travelled to Spain, thinking I’ll be posting from there… But then Ralph and I were so much within our own happiness, enjoying every second we had together. From the moment I got out of the Taxi in front of Ralph’s home in Spain, to our first hug, we were just in the clouds with our minds. We were pretty much useless for anything else but enjoying each others company.

We were just as relaxed, natural, and at ease with each other, as we’ve been all the time before during our many hour-long calls, our emails and messages. It was even better than I had expected. We are so good together, it’s pretty much a miracle. We complete each other in a perfect way. And from the first things we did together, like making orange juice, we were a perfect team in even such little tasks. Everything between us is smooth, happy, natural and totally uncomplicated. It’s like we understand each other blindly, and as if we’ve known each other for all our lives.

It really was so amazing, so much more than I could never have imagined before, that we forgot everything else, as the time went by so quickly. Ralph started to reply to many of his lovely readers after quite a while, little by little. I was usually beside him or nearby, but still useless for writing a blog post…

The cats Samantha and Sonic are just the sweetest! They too stole my heart in no time and I love them! They seem to have taken a liking to me as well! Yay! I had so much fun playing with them, cuddling them, and taking to them. It was so sweet to sleep in a bed with Ralph and two cats!

Sonic and Samantha enjoying the morning sun on the bed

As for sweet Murli, I was so very relieved and happy, because she was just fine, and happy, eating and playing and cuddling normally, thanks to my Dad. He took good care of her and they had quite a bit of fun. I was in communication with Dad every day, so I constantly knew how she’s doing, which put me at ease. Although I was missing her lots, and I cried for quite a while when the train left Graz for Vienna, on my first day of travel to Spain (I had to take a hotel room near the airport, since the flight to Malaga, Spain, was going very early in the morning the next day).

I will be writing a couple more posts soon, as there is so much to post about, I can’t do it in just one post. There are many pictures and things to write about, so I will do that in a couple separate posts. Today, this post is for the most important updates, so everybody knows about what’s going on with us.

So on to the news!

Back when we were still only communicating over the distance, in our many hours long daily calls over google hangouts, and countless long messages and emails, we were already amazed at how amazingly well we get on. We never seem to run out of things to talk about, and we are able to talk about everything. We’re both open and honest with each other, and we found that we have all interests in common, and the things we like and dislike, the way in which we go about our lives and the way in which we deal with things. We constantly found new things we had in common. And everything is so smooth and natural between us, so easy and relaxed and happy, it’s like a dream. Something like this doesn’t normally happen I always thought. I certainly would have never expected to find someone to love and who would love me. I had given up on finding someone for me long ago, when I was about 25. Now with 37, BANG! Finding the love of my life, when I least expected it.

Our time together in Spain, absolutely and completely reaffirmed what we had already felt and wanted before I came to Spain, and much much more on top of that. While there, Ralph and I got engaged, all official with a ring and everything. I had said YES within a millisecond. YAY!!!!! And I say Yes a quadrillion times more, endlessly for the rest of our lives. I say yes with all I am, and my heart and soul. Not a single hint of any doubts in either of our hearts.

For some, or even many, it might seem crazy, and that we’re doing things too fast… But for someone on the outside, it’s just different, as they can’t see within our hearts and minds, and how wonderful we are together, and how well we take care of each other and how happy we are, and how absolutely honestly we mean it with each other. For us, there is no reason to lose any time that we could spend together as a couple, as husband and wife. There’s no reason to wait, as everything is already clear and it could not become any more clear and certain that we are right for each other. So any waiting period would not change anything, but would just be time we’re not together. And with time, everybody can see for themselves how wonderful we are together and how much we help and support each other.

Hopefully, within September, Ralph will be able to come to Austria, as well as the cats, his belongings and all the contents of his apartment, after I have found us a home here in or around my city of Graz. From the moment on, that I have my dearest Ralph back, as I pick him up from the airport in Vienna, he will never again have to do anything alone, as I’ll be there, with him, for him and through everything. I love him so much, and I want to see him happy and make his life easier, in any way that I’m able to. Ralph is such a big support for me as well, with my anxiety, and my medical conditions, and together we are complete. Together we can get things done perfectly, as we really complete each other to such a degree, it’s like we’re really meant to be together.

Some of you will already know about it all, since Ralph’s post went live late last night, and the wonderful and talented Resa, has finished her newest art gown, which was another really miraculous thing, because of the way the ideas for the gown and the gown itself seemed to have gone their own way, as if there was some foresight involved. Resa also mentioned us and our announcement in her own very sweet words. You can read all about it here: O Royal Treasure

I will also reblog Ralph’s and Resa’s post on my blog, as they’re just so wonderfully amazing and important.

I thank you so much Ralph, for your amazingly wonderful post about us, and I thank you as well Resa, for dedicating your stunningly beautiful gown to Ralph and now me too, and for your kind words! You are really amazing! Your gown is so beautiful, I’m just speechless. Stunned! Thank you so much!

So that’s it for now, for this post. But there will be more to follow! With more pics!

Thank you all so very much, for all the kind words towards Ralph and I, it’s been absolutely amazing. We’re speechless, getting so much love from so many of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Sending lots of love to all of you, from Murli and I!

Art Gowns

Were you ever impassioned to make an Art Gown from 150 O’s?

Yes! Then you probably know this year is Canada’s 150th birthday.

In 1967, Canada was 100 years old. Our national anthem is “O Canada”. In celebration, Joyce Wieland created a famous lithograph of O’s formed by her red painted lips.

Yet, this is the Art Gown dedicated to Ralph from Bluefish Way, and Ralph lives in Spain. Ah, but he lives in Cañada del Real Tesoro, Spain. Canada/Cañada – it was a thrilling discovery.

According to Mini-Me, Ralph, and what Belen Soto told me, it means Path to the Royal Treasure.

Turned out the path to O Royal Treasure was a 4 month trek.

150 flowers were created. Using a dinner plate, and 2 different sized saucers. I cut out 150 circles, gathered the edges, & drew them  into flowers. I painted my lips red, formed an…
