Is it really Fall already?

Because it looks and feels like fall for us here. The leaves are dropping faster and faster and the days are getting shorter, the nights decidedly colder. We had to put the heating on over two weeks ago, for the most part only for the nights though. Thankfully, on most days the afternoons are still warm enough for the kitties to spend a few hours out on the catio.

What we’ve been up to since the last time

Ralph and I needed some more storage space for all our combined stuff in our home. We especially wanted a storage unit for the living room. But the furniture we saw in the stores were not really what we liked. So I went to look for a storage unit from private sellers. There is a very large site in Austria with all sorts of categories of stuff that people are selling. You can find just about anything there. The only problem is you have to pick it up yourself, which isn’t all that easy with large pieces of furniture.

Minutes into me browsing the site for storage units, I saw countless beautiful pieces for a very good price. One advert was especially great since the seller also provided transport for a small charge!

It was a lovely Lady who had to sell a bunch of her things because they were moving into a smaller home and had to get rid of a few large things. So, two weeks ago, the Ladies son and one of his friends came with their huge truck and delivered the storage unit to us! The unit comes in two separate pieces, the top and the bottom. The two guys brought them in and put it together for us. It was all done within a few minutes.

And here it is!

Of course, Hero and Lisa, who are terrified of strangers, were hiding. Samantha didn’t care too much and Sonic didn’t notice anything, since he was outside on the balcony with Ralph.

I had been hoping Hero and Lisa would stay out on the balcony with Ralph, as well, where they would not have noticed as much. It didn’t even take long for Hero to come back out!

Sonic followed Ralph into the living room and had quite the surprise to see the new storage unit there! As you know, Sonic is completely deaf, so he really had no idea anything was going on while he was out on the balcony with Ralph. Hero and Sonic were first to inspect everything!

Samantha came out soon afterwards, and Hero coaxed his sister Lisa out a few minutes later.

The first thing I did was to move Murli’s urn into its new spot in the storage unit. Finally, I had a safe pace for her, where I could also see the urn all the time.

Murli’s urn and her paw print in a clay heart below

Next to Murli’s urn are her favourite mousie, her wooden toy ball, her valerian root cushion, and below is her paw print in a clay heart, that the lovely people from the pet crematory made for me back then. It feels good to be able to honour her physical remains in that way. I know her beautiful soul is watching us sometimes. One day, we will all be reunited again.

Ralph and Hero ❤

That’s my view now when I move my head to the right from my desk ❤️ Hero loves to hang out on Ralph’s desk, and also loves to walk all over his keyboard…

Continuing my crochet and starting to sew!

You might remember that I started to crochet a curtain with a cat motive at the end of last year?

This is what it will look like, although mine will be wider, to fit our window in the living room.

I was working on it at the end of 2019 and when Murli passed, I lost all motivation for anything. I just felt too sad to engage in any of my hobbies. Only by the end of this summer did I finally feel all the motivation come back, to engage in the little hobbies I love again.

In addition, I wanted to learn how to sew my own clothes, as well as mend things and create toys for the cats. Luckily I found a lovely sewing machine and ordered it!

This sewing machine had some really great reviews and wasn’t expensive. Of course, the bag I chose for it has kitties on it!

I also have a few sewing patterns for a dress and a top, that are rather easy and for beginners. I sewed before, just easy little things, but that was over 15 years ago.

Covid19 getting worse again

We’ve been at home ever since the beginning of the Pandemic. Since then, I only left to go buy what we need, go to the doctor for my regular prescriptions and pick up meds for Sonic and Samantha at the Vet.

I’ve only been out for fun about 3 times since August, and that was to visit my best friend Conny and her two kitties.

Anytime I leave, I use my bicycle, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer whenever I had to touch anything outside. I did this, even though I wasn’t afraid or worried. I just don’t take even the tiniest chance to bring the Virus home to Ralph.

Here is what the case rate looks like at the moment for Austria…

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/austria/

The cases have been steadily increasing since July. It looks like it’s now nearly at the same number of active cases as back at the end of March and beginning of April 2020.

Though, most active cases come from Vienna this time. Here in our city of Graz the rate is at 37 infected for every 100.000 people. In comparison, the rate in Vienna is 153 for every 100.000 people.

It will end at some point. They’ll hopefully have a working vaccine soon!

Today

I can’t believe it’s the 8th of October already, because this year went by faster than all the years before. And the previous years felt like they were over in a flash already!

Samantha on the window sill, Sonic on the kitty tree, Lisa on the bed near the tree, and flopped out Hero on the bed.

We had another sunny and warm afternoon. But as soon as the sun is gone, it gets chilly quickly. Some days were cold despite the sun, then the 4 kitties go into the bedroom to soak in the sun. Now that the bed is right beside the window, they absolutely LOVE it. They can lie around in the sun and see the birds while on the bed.

Cuddling up with cats

During the night, I usually have Sonic to my right, with his head next to mine on the pillow and my hand on his side. That’s how he cuddles up every time I go to bed. Lisa and Hero will either sleep along or on my legs, or one of the two will sleep way up on the left side of my head, leaning onto my pillow. Samantha will usually stay to my right and when Ralph comes to bed, she’ll cuddle up on his legs.

My only problem is that I get a bit hot sometimes with all the kitties around me…

I’ll end this post now, but I’ll post another one soon. I will go catch up on all of your blogs now. I hope all your furbabies and yourselves are well!

Ralph, the kitties and I send love to all! Take care!

Hot summer days

Hello dear friends! I hope you and your loved ones are all well! I continue to feel great! But I’ve been seriously busy every day, with just the usual chores, that are more exhausting due to the heatwaves we’ve been having. The heat would not be a problem, as it’s not extremely hot compared to other places, but the humidity is through the roof constantly.

The kitties, who love to hang out on the balcony cation when it’s nice, have been flopping all over the place during the day.

Eating and drinking is done as comfortable as possible…

Aside from the humid heat, we’ve had a couple of really severe thunderstorms, with unbelievable amounts of rain, high winds and hail.

The storm in the video below came through in the afternoon of August 14, 2020. It rained so heavily at times, that all you saw was white when looking out of the windows.

The flower tray below, filled up within 15 minutes, if not sooner and was then simply overflowing. It was empty because I took the flower pot with my Lavender out of it before the storm.

We’ve had some severe thunderstorms here, but I’ve never seen that amount of rain within such a short time.

The leaves on all the trees and bushes look like they’ve stood in a war zone. They are completely ripped to shreds by the few hail storms we’ve had recently. The leaves are just shreds or have multiple round holes in them.

The photo below is from August the 5th, after just one severe thunderstorm with hail. It’s the bush to the right of our balcony. By now they look much worse and are simply shredded. I still need to take photographs of how it looks currently.

Though as I mentioned, for the most part, all of August has been very hot. In the morning and the late afternoon, the kitties and I love to hang out on the balcony catio. It’s just lovely.

In the following photos, it’s pretty much obvious that it’s really hot and humid. The kitties are just simply totally flat out and try not to move at all.

Thankfully the living room window is always a cool spot. The sun moves to the west and the whole street is in the shade after midday. But even before then it’s lovely and cool. There’s always a nice breeze and the cats just love to watch what’s going on out there.

These blinds are absolutely wonderful in creating shade and keeping the heat out. The living room and the bedroom are always nice and cool. The old wooden shutters on the bedroom window keep the bedroom perfectly cool, even though the sun is on them all afternoon. It’s quite amazing.

Covid19

We’re still staying at home due to Covid19. The case numbers have been going up and down. Recently they went up again quite a bit, as vacationers came back from other countries infected with the Virus. By now I just hope they find a vaccine, so this plague will finally come to an end.

In other news

I’m full of ideas.. and there are so many things I enjoy doing and want to do. Like crocheting and learning how to sew clothes. It’s all a slow progress, as my energy allowance for each day is rather low and easily used up. I will find a way to sort it all out and plan my days a bit better. Now that my migraines aren’t as frequent, I want to do all kinds of things at the same time. There are also about a million jobs to do just around the home, like organising the wardrobe in the bedroom, the books, paperwork and bits and pieces in the living room and the kitchen.

Although all of the mentioned comes after what’s most important: Ralph and the cats, all daily tasks, then the blog and all the wonderful friends we made. Love and friendship are where I get my energy from!

I will leave you with this photo-filled post now and we wish you all a lovely Sunday evening! Big hugs and purrs!

Hot day today! Some more flopped out cats.

It’s been hot with high humidity all day. Even Murli didn’t stay on the balcony and went inside at 10am already. She’s been up on the fridge all afternoon. I found out that there is a slightly cool spot right in the middle at the top of the fridge. So that smart girl found that out at some point, which is why she’s always up there when she feels hot.

Murli and Samantha

Even Samantha likes to be near the fridge and she enjoys Murlis big cat bed. Though Samantha likes to move around a bit more and changes her sleeping spot repeatedly.

Sonic moves around as well and changes his sleeping spot constantly throughout the day. Especially when it’s hot, he likes to simply be flopped out somewhere. It’s his favourite position when it’s hot.

Here is a of photos of him flopping all over the place. Some of the pics are from earlier in the summer, but most of them are recent.

After Murli has been on the fridge for most of the day, she’s just gone on the balcony again. It’s almost 7pm now and still hot outside, although less than during the day of course.

Murli is herself all flopped out now…

Cute Cat Lady Stuff
I’m enjoying working on my crochet Cat Curtain for the living room. Once I have a bit more of the cats, I’ll post my progress. I just love doing it. It’s relaxing! I especially enjoy doing it while I listen to podcasts on my phone, sitting outside on the balcony.

Something else I wanted to share are those cute things:

CatladyStuff_20190811_01
Cat figure on the bathroom window

A little cat figure on the bathroom window…

and a kitty wind chime above the balcony door…

CatladyStuff_20190811_02
Kitty wind chime

I love wind chimes! When I saw this one on Amazon back in 2018, I had to get it for our home. It’s lovely when I hear the chime when a breeze comes through. It’s been difficult to photograph because it’s so high up. The chime is hanging in front of the top window that’s above the balcony door.

There is a lot of Catlady stuff throughout our home… But it makes me happy seeing those cute things around lol.

WordPress Premium
In case you’ve seen the way my blog looks, with the new background and colours changed, that’s because I have finally decided to get WordPress Premium. The reason I did that was to be able to monetize the blog. It would be crazy awesome to be able to earn a little bit with blogging. I want to get into blogging a lot more and it would be wonderful if I can add a tiny bit of income with it. No matter how small, everything counts.

Yet another unexpected update regarding the bathroom/wet walls problem
Today a contractor from the company that will fix everything rang our doorbell. We didn’t expect anyone today, but I guess he was having a look at everything outside. He asked to have a look at the shower tap and shower wall. Of course, there’s nothing to be seen, but I explained to him what the other contractor found out.

He told me that they will come by again soon to decide how to go about fixing everything. Because apparently, they do want to get into the wall now to look at the pipe. On the other side of our shower tap is the back of the communal toilet in the hallway. And it’s that wall that is quite wet. That wall can’t be seen at all by anyone, except the people using the toilet, which are two people. I never knew what it looked like in there until the contractor showed me.

Thankfully we have our own toilet IN our apartment and also thankfully, our toilet is not wet and won’t have to be messed with.

Something has been going on there for a long time and I guess they just want to have a proper look at it all and fix it all for good.

He said they will come by at first to decide if they are ripping into the wall from the side of the communal toilet, or if they go in from our side in the shower. If they go in on our side, it means a much bigger construction site for us and tiles being removed and everything. Which is a shame, since it’s looking really nice. I love the tiles we have…

If they have to rip out the whole shower including basin and everything, then we’ll have them put in a new shower. The new shower would be paid by us anyway. The reason we would have it changed then is that the shower basin currently has no proper foundation/support underneath. As it is now, it will break completely anyway at some point. You can feel it is a bit bouncy, because the shower basin kind of just hangs in the air, for the most part, only supported at the edge probably.

Whoever did the installation of the shower and shower tap long before us, probably wasn’t a proper professional. Thankfully they’re all professionals from proper companies now. So things will be done properly.

Of course, being me, I got a refill of anxiety after hearing about having to have a construction site in our bathroom after all. But Ralph got me calmed down again, talking about how there isn’t really anything to worry about and how I should just let them get on with it, doing their jobs and then it’s over with and how it’s a good thing if they fix everything. We also don’t have to pay for that fix either, since the landlord’s insurance pays for it.

Like I wrote in my post yesterday, somebody from the landlord’s insurance company is coming tomorrow morning to also have a look at everything and measure the humidity in all the walls.

I just hope nobody tried to call me today because there’s a massive outage on Magenta Telekom’s network. Magenta T. belongs to T-Mobile. Nobody on that network had cellphone reception since the early morning. No calls or text and no internet on cellphones. But thankfully the normal internet modem works fine. It’s just the cellphones for some reason. I can’t remember there ever being such a big outage. It’s all of Austria. Not that I care all that much, since it feels actually nice to know that nobody can call me, which means I can’t get any calls regarding the bathroom/wet wall problem, which would only feed my anxiety again lol.

The title in the image below translates to: “Map of Magenta’s outages/problems”

Underneath it translates to: “The last reported problems mostly came from: …”

Screenshot of Magenta-Störungskarte _ Allestörungen
Outage areas for the Magenta (T-Mobile) outage. The only white area is where the big mountains of the alps are lol. No cell reception up there anyway.

So we’ll see what comes out of the appointment with the man from the insurance company tomorrow. I’ll keep you all updated.

Thank you all so very much for your wonderful and kind comments on yesterdays post! All of you are always so sweet to me! Love you all! 💕🙋😻😻😻💕

A possible construction site in our bathroom, a Crochet project and happy cats

We stayed at home for the past two weeks, as the weather wasn’t really predictable to go take the cable car up the mountain. They would have shut it down anyway as it was too windy. It had cooled down a lot for the first week and it rained a lot. It’s warming up now, but we still get rain every afternoon pretty much. But we always enjoy our days, no matter if we’re home or somewhere else.

I also had a lot fewer migraines! Instead, I had quite bad fatigue for some reason. I also have low energy, or rather, not enough for everything I want to do. But that fatigue was really annoying, as I felt too tired for anything. Even too tired to use the laptop, read or write much. I might have not been drinking enough… It’s better now after drinking more, but it’s not yet totally gone.

Even though it’s looking like a thunderstorm is coming right now, we finally had a lovely summer day today!

I’m using two umbrellas on the balcony to have shade on the whole balcony for the cats and us (well mainly me, as Ralph does not mind the sun).

The cats are happy! With the bad weather, the cats stayed in for much of the day for two weeks. Inside, Samantha’s favourite spot at the moment is this carrier. This old carrier has been a bed for a long time already.

I brought Murli’s big pillow from my Dad’s home. I forgot to bring it when I moved and then I forgot for all this time… It’s not like she was out of beds or anything. We have countless baskets of all types, sizes and shapes and countless other nice spots for the cats. But Murli was definitely happy to get this big pillow again! My beloved Mum bought it for Murli when she was a kitten. She loved it ever since. The perfect spot for the pillow was the washing machine, since Murli likes to hang out in the kitchen anyway.

I’m starting Crochet

I always loved Crochet! And I’m going to crochet a Kitty-Curtain for the top part of our living room window.

20170714_ourWindow_002
Living room window

This is the curtain that I’ll be doing. I bought a German book with lots of cute crochet curtains on Amazon.

20190720_CrochetBook_01

This is the curtain I’ll be doing:

CatCrochetCurtains

It’s been a long time since I did anything though and my Crochet stuff has been lost for the most part when I moved one time… Because I really wanted to start it up again, I ordered what I needed…

Like a book that teaches everything I need, as I forgot a lot and I also want to learn more.

20190720_CrochetBook_02

I also got a set of crochet needles and a bag to put the yarn in and all the tools. The bag has a pocket for the yarn that you can close. But it also has little holes so only the thread gets pulled out while you crochet. It’s helpful because if I have the yarn just out on the table, with it spinning every time I pull on it, Murli goes all silly with it. So that bag is helping a lot with that.

I’m really going to enjoy this little project and all the ones that will follow!

Water damage in our building

A couple weeks ago, a contractor sent by the building management came to inform us that a wet stain in the stairwell has been reported to the building management. I had no idea what he was talking about, but he showed me.

June 6, 2019 - Wet stains
Yucky wet stains where the pain falls off

After he showed me that spot, I knew what he was talking about. I just never thought it was water damage. That stain was there for a very long time, maybe even since we moved in. I always thought it was damage from people bonking furniture into the wall when moving. The stain never changed and always looked the same, but looking closer it is definitely wet.

The problem is, behind this wall, which is a very thick wall (about a meter thick), is our bathroom. The back wall of our bathroom. Within that thick wall are numerous water pipes. Immediately to the right of the stain, much closer to the stairwell, is the hallway toilet that two neighbours use who live in the two one-room units on the same floor as us. The contractor had a look in that toilet and with him, I did too. The back wall of that toilet is wet with stains as well. It’s not a big leak, it must be a tiny little leak somewhere that has been going on for a while.

From our apartment and our bathroom, you can’t notice anything. It’s all perfectly nice. No mould, no bad smell, no tiles falling off the wall. It’s a nice bathroom and I love the tiles. I really hope they won’t have to rip our bathroom to bits… Our toilet is fine as well, you can’t notice anything there either.

On Monday the contractor comes again and they are going to look for a leak in the pipes. No idea how they’re going to do that. Maybe they already rip the bathroom to bits tomorrow. He said the fault search will take about two to three hours when I asked. Hopefully, they don’t find the fault within one of our pipes, so that they don’t have to make a construction site of our bathroom. Of course, everything is paid by the building management, but it’s no fun. I just have no idea how that is going to go.

The other side of the wall, in the hallway toilet and the stairwell wall need to be repaired anyway, so I would hope they would open the wall from that side and not from our perfectly fine bathroom.

Anyway, before they are coming on Monday, I’ll get both cat litters and their food and all the cats and close the door to the hallway and kitchen. That way they will be in the living room and bedroom and the hallway in between those two. But the door to the rest of the apartment will stay closed, so that they won’t have to be so afraid and are safe. Because with people going in and out of the apartment, I don’t want to risk them running out of the apartment door.

I’ll let you all know what comes out of all that on Monday.

Regarding the noisy neighbour I wrote about last time… It’s been quiet for almost two weeks now. The temperatures have been low during most of these nights, so we had the bedroom window closed and would not have heard anything. But we didn’t hear anything when out on the balcony really late either. Also, it’s been gradually warming up again these past days, and now with the bedroom window open again, we did not hear anything from that neighbour either. Maybe enough people complained or they calmed down lol.

Hope everyone and their kitties are fine! Sending love from all of us and Happy Caturday! 💕

October 31, 2016 at 8:30pm

We had a good night and slept so well, and of course we woke up an hour early, but got up anyway. Unfortunately, I woke up with a migraine though, but after I took my triptan, it was gone again.

When I looked outside this morning, I saw them putting up the christmas lights in the street! Every year at the same time, they put up the lights. Another year has gone buy since I last stood at my window, taking pictures of them putting up the christmas lights… It doesn’t feel like it’s been a year. But the years haven’t been feeling like full years for some time now. Somehow, it feels like the time has sped up compared to my childhood and early 20s. Especially as a child, a year felt like an eternity.

This year, I saw the first christmas sweets and even decoration, by the end of August… Can you believe that? I don’t really know why that would be a good idea from the stores perspective. Does anyone even buy them that early? Are people supposed to eat christmas sweets for all those months until the christmas holidays? But they would be sick of it by the end of October, of not earlier… Or are people supposed to buy them at that time and then keep them until the holidays? But who wants old sweets? Neither makes sense 😂 😹 We love sweet things, a lot, but my dad and I will start with cookies and the like about two weeks before christmas. I look already forward to it. Murli would love them too! There are some cookies, that Murli goes all excited about when she smells them… I have to be careful not to have them accessible, otherwise Murli would get right into the cookie tin…

Later today, I went to grab a few things before the holiday tomorrow. I also got a couple new crotchet hooks from a sale, because I want to learn how to crotchet. I can do the basics, but I want to learn how to make awesome things to wear and other useful stuff.

On my way home, I took a shortcut through a church parking lot, which has a garden and trees that belong to the monastery there. The sun being so low, causes the light to be much warmer and more in the red of the colorspectrum, which looked beautiful on the yellow, red and brownish foliage on trees and bushes.

All of this is is near the city center.

Back home Murli was happy to see me back. She was hungry too and looking forward to the cooked chicken brest I made her before.

Now she sleeps behind me on the floor, on her favorite rug, while I sit at the computer. This Thrusday, on the 3rd of November, we have to go to the vet. It’s time for her vaccination shots and check up. Muri also has her skin problem again, where she gets itchy at the area before her ears, and some other small spots on her chin. It started just before the weekend. She had that problem in 2014 too. It goes away again after the medicine I have to put on those areas, which stops the itching, gets rid of any inflammation and desinfects the area. As soon as the medicine is on, the itching stops.

But no idea what it really is or what causes it. It doesn’t seem to be influenced by her food, or by anything else she has contact with. I have to use very mild and totally non irritating stuff myself, because of my rosacea and my overly sensitive skin, that reacts with inflammation to any chemical preservatives, BHA and BHT, Parabens, Phthalates, anything with Aluminum in it, many parfums and pretty much every chemical in mainstream cosmetics. So I just avoid them alltogether. Thankfully there are nowadays lots of alternatives, that are vegan and cruelty free and because of that usually harmless enough of my skin. I can’t even use sunscreen lol. Because my skin can’t tolerate the chemical UV filters in them. And because of my rosacea, I have to avoid the too much direct sun. Which is why I usually go with umbrellas in summer 😂

Anways, the point of that long explanation is, that there isn’t much in the home that could be harmful. Pretty much any and everything we use is organic, most food is usually bought from the farmers market and cleaners are environment friendly and as harmless as possible.

Murlis food is also without any bad chemicals, grain, or stuff that doesn’t belong. When Murli was still a kitten, she was often sick and had diarrhea and would throw up soon after she ate. I realized back then, that she simply can’t tolerate many of the ingredients in normal cat food. As soon as it’s just meat and the food is free of grain, artificial aromas, preservatives, food coloring and other additives, all is well. That’s how I noticed pretty quickly that it was the food, because as soon as I gave her cooked chicken breast, she was fine. Every meal would cause a reaction of her body very soon. If there is anything in the food she can’t tolerate, she’ll throw up and have diarrhea soon after. Poor baby! But ever since then, we have figured out what works and what must be avoided and we have enough food brands to choose from nowadays. Never again did we have those problems and Murli has been in purrfect health all those years.

Except for the few small spots of itchy skin, all is well. I’m sure there are some more things we can do to help with that. We will see what our Vet says on Thursday.

Now I’ll go and make some tea and have a comfy evening with Murli. Hope all of you are fine and you have a happy Halloween 🎃
