Can you believe it? Time goes by so fast! Hero and Lisa were over 5 months old when we adopted them on November 5, 2019 😸😸💗 Their age was estimated by the Vet. But I chose the 15th of May because it was the earliest point on which they were probably born. And it’s a nice date!
Hero and Lisa are so thoroughly part of our little family, as if they have always been part of us. All the kitties love each other, even Murli loved the 2, in the short time they had together.
At the moment Hero and Lisa are partying like mad. Running around the home as fast as possible. And Hero is just as fast as Lisa! He just can’t turn corners as tightly as she can, and he can’t jump higher than onto a chair, but he makes up for that in strength and sheer will to get where he wants. He’ll climb everything! He’s so strong, he can pull himself up onto things with only his front legs.
They are both incredibly intelligent and learn things so quickly. Of course that involves figuring out all sorts of shenanigans! Always fun! Seriously, it really is. It’s pretty funny if you enter the bedroom and find all the drawers are opened with all the underwear and socks all strewn about.
Of course nobody was anywhere near it… Even if one of them (or both) are sitting in said drawers, then that’s only because they were investigating what’s going on and trying to fix it.
We love you sweet Hero and Lisa 😺 😸 I’ll always do everything to make your lives as happy and full of love and fun (and food & treats) as possible!
Can you believe it? These two sweeties are now a whole year young! They were probably born between early or late June 2019, so June 15 sounds purrfect as their official birthday 🎁
Happy birthday sweet Hero and Lisa!!
Your lifes started out tragic, awful and scary. You had to endure so much, and were so close to death when you were found and rescued by the cat rescue.
Especially Hero was almost put down right away as he was in such bad shape with his injured back leg, that had been like that for days. In addition, you both were starving and dehydrated. You babies had been abandoned on the street when you were far too young to know anything about hunting for food.
But the kind and courageous Helga from the cat rescue wouldn’t give up on you and told the Vet she wanted you saved no matter what.
After emergency medical care and amputation surgery for Hero’s right back leg, you were nursed back to health at a lovely foster home.
Your ad for adoption was out for 2 months, in which nobody wanted to adopt you both together, as everyone took issue with your missing leg sweet boy. 💔 But people like that miss something that is very important, a kind and loving heart. People like that aren’t complete, they truly have something important missing.
You on the other paw Hero, you are complete and purrfect. You can do everything and are a sweet and cheerful kitty boy, who is unbelievably strong.
Lisa, you are full of life as well and your little heart is full of love too. Hero and you are siblings and best friends. I’m so lucky and thankful I came across your ad before you could be separated at some point.
I couldn’t imagine life without you both. You were and are a blessing that came when it was most needed for me and for you both. It was meant to be.
This is just the first of many more birthdays. For the rest of your life’s, no one will ever hurt you again and I will do anything that every moment of your precious life’s are happy, fulfilled and safe. Love you forever sweeties!
It’s a very different Easter, but despite everything, I wish you all a lovely Easter and that you can enjoy it as much as possible.
Despite the difficult times, I am still very lucky to have a home that we’re safe in, that we’re healthy and together, and that we have everything we need and won’t have to worry too much. I’m happy to spend Easter with my little family of Ralph and the cats Samantha, Sonic, Hero and Lisa. I’m also happy and thankful to have all of you wonderful friends! I just want everyone and their furbabies to be safe and well.
I am writing on a post, that I’ll hopefully be able to finish tomorrow. The migraines have messed all the blogging and updating up, again… I’m so sorry.
But I wanted to wish you all a lovely Easter and let you all know that we’re still perfectly fine. Still under lockdown and at home. I feel it will be a long time before they end the lockdown.
Sending lots of love from Ralph, the kitties and me!
Have fun watching Lisa fetching her toy balls in this video:
Not long after this video, she actually started bringing her balls right to me, so I can throw them again. She’s now actually fetching properly! Of course I’ll do a video about that soon.
Even if we’re locked down and stay at home for who knows how long, I will always be happy and content with my lovely little family!
There’s no getting bored in our home anyway. Not with the 4 cats and each other, and the internet, which lets us connect to our friends and lots of entertainment.
Every day is a lovely day with our cats
As soon as I open my eyes in the morning, this is usually what I see…
Hero, Lisa and Sonic usually sleep on top of me, or cuddled up on my tummy, my legs, arms, or my side, depending on the way I’m lying. It’s usually these 3 in any order that are all over and around me. Samantha loves to either be curled up next to Ralph’s legs, or she watches the birds from the bedroom window (that’s where Samantha was when I took these photos).
It’s impossible not to smile first thing when I wake up with my little family of Ralph and the cats all around me. No matter how anxious I feel, or how bad my migraine is when I wake up, I still wake up feeling happy thanks to them.
Spring is definitely here with flowers everywhere and birds who are building their nests again. The temperatures before the weekend were amazing! Almost like summer. Unfortunately, it got really cold again over the weekend.
Especially today, the wind was awfully strong and ice cold. I really hope it will warm up again soon, the cats and us really missed the warm sun.
Despite the cold, Lisa and Hero always enjoy some fresh air and love to watch the birds for a few minutes. Also, Lisa and I have a little game where I throw one of the toy balls out onto the balcony and she will run out to bring it back in every single time! She usually carries her ball to the same spot, there she’ll wait for me to get it and throw it again.
But at long as it’s sunny, the cats are getting their fill of sunshine inside as well. With every day we’re getting closer to summer, the sun will shine into our apartment longer.
A small earthquake with the epicentre in Croatia
Yesterday, there was even an earthquake we slept through (at 5:24 UTC). Well, I’m sure the cats noticed, but Ralph and I didn’t. Here in Graz it wasn’t anything serious. The epicentre was in Croatia, a little less than 200km from us, where earthquakes aren’t anything unusual. I’ve experienced a couple of them when I was in Croatia myself as a child.
Small earthquakes with the epicentre within Austria are not unusual either, as the African plate meets with the Eurasian plate in the Alps. Especially our region is rather active for these little earthquakes.
Since it’s almost midnight again, I will go to bed in a bit. I’ll hopefully feel more rested soon, as the day seems way to short when I need more sleep than normal.
I keep thinking of everyone, hoping that you’re all safe and well, and have everything you need.
Sometimes, I can’t find a fitting title, so I just use the current date…
You might have heard about the heatwave in Europe? We did have a few really hot days, but it cooled down to normal levels again for this weekend. Though, the temperatures are rising again and according to the forecast, the coming week will be even hotter than the previous one.
With my ongoing quest to spoil the cats as much as possible, I wanted to create more shade for them on the balcony. So I ordered a cover for the railing, which will shade the floor of the balcony. I ordered this blue and white striped one, because I love things to be as colourful as possible.
Of course, I could just mount a cover for the whole length of the balcony railing, but then the cats would not be able to see into the garden as easily. Therefore, I folded the cover in half and mounted it so the cats would still be able to look out on both ends easily. I left more uncovered on the right side, where the bird feeder is.
The mats I had previously used for shade were by now almost falling apart from taking them up and down constantly. With this balcony cover, I don’t have to worry about taking it down all the time, since it’s made for being outside. It’s working nicely and creates full shade.
The wooden privacy fence and the big blue umbrella together with the new cover make the balcony really comfortable and also more private, while still giving the cats enough unrestricted view to watch everything going on outside of the balcony.
Then, while I was shopping yesterday morning, I discovered a mat that I knew would be great for the cats to lie on outside. It is quite long and makes it much softer and comfortable.
I still covered the mat with their blankies and they absolutely love it. They’re out on the balcony even more now!
The reason why we don’t really need an umbrella for the right side of our balcony is this very tall Sycamore tree. In the late afternoon, it will shade the whole balcony. Although there is a span of time where the right side is in full sun for a while, before the sun gets behind the tree, but it’s not too much of a problem.
Sweet little boy Sonic prefers to stay inside for the most part. He’s always been that way and usually only stays out on the balcony for a short time, unlike the two girls who stay out there for hours.
Sonic has his favourite spots and also loves to flop down wherever he feels like, even if he is totally blocking the way.
The nights at the moment
With the hot summer days, people leave their windows open all night, including us. It is normally absolutely quiet in our block, which is really amazing considering how many apartments there are. I can leave the bedroom window wide open all night and there is just no noise and it’s wonderful!
Or it was… The lovely quiet night has been broken up by the screaming and moaning of a woman, every night for the last week.
Edit: I forgot to clarify… It’s not a woman in pain btw… She’s at it with a man and it’s totally obvious, so that there’s no mistaking what’s going on. Seriously, it’s so annoying! We heard a man moaning for a while as well the other night, that’s why I know it’s a woman with a man.
It sounds like it’s coming from the ground floor level of the building next to our building. She is really loud and it will go on ALL NIGHT. She will start at like 1 or 2 am and then keep going until it’s morning. She will stop for maybe 15 minutes in between and then start up again. Of course, it keeps waking us up. I had to close the window last night, because we needed sleep, even though I would really need the fresh air overnight when it’s hot like that. It prevents getting a migraine from stuffy air.
Here is a google maps screenshot of the part of our block where our building is. I concealed the street name with the flowers lol. It’s just safer that way I think since you never know who finds your public images and blog.
Anyway, here it is:
The blue arrow points to our building and the area of our apartment. The red arrow points to where the moaning comes from. We can’t see the building like that from our point of view, so we can’t be sure which apartment it comes from exactly, but it’s definitely this building.
It’s just crazy! I’m certain it won’t be any different tonight either. I’m currently thinking about what to do if it does not stop. I’ve heard other people calling out to them to keep it down, but she does not seem to care at all.
Otherwise, we all have been doing well! I’m currently looking forward to getting all my pain medicine for 18 days, starting the coming Friday. This means I don’t have to pick up my bottles every afternoon from the pharmacy. Maybe we can go up on the mountain near Graz on one of those days and take lots of photos and videos! I love doing things together with Ralph, we always have such a lovely time, no matter what we do.
Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday everyone! The cats are sending out purrs and paw hugs!
